Family-Caregiver Education
Weingarten Children’s Center is dedicated to supporting and empowering families on their child’s listening and spoken language development journey, as we know that caregivers are their child’s primary and best teacher. Through the Parent Education Program, we offer opportunities for families to learn together through monthly live virtual learning sessions on topics related to the care, development, and education of children with hearing loss. Parent Education sessions are led by Listening and Spoken Language experts, including Speech-Language Pathologists/Auditory-Verbal Therapists, Teachers of the Deaf, and Audiologists.
Tonight’s Parent Education Learning Session:
Wednesday, December 16, 2025
Learning Topic: Mindful Screentime
Time: 7:30-8:30 PM (Pacific Standard Time)
Presenter: Shannon Sharma, Speech Language Pathologist, Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist
Technology has become more and more available and marketed towards children. In this learning session, we we’ll discuss the latest research on the effectiveness of learning from screens, its potential impact on child development, and some of the benefits. Additionally, we will share current research on screentime for children with a neurodiverse learning style. Join us for practical advice on deciding the amount and type of screentime for your child’s age and stage, how to co-watch, and how to reduce screen-related tantrums while creating a happy and healthy balance for your family. This presentation is created with families of children with hearing loss from ages 0 to 6 years in mind.
