The BabyTalk Teleintervention Program was developed and operated in partnership with the Stanford School of Medicine, Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

BabyTalk provides one-on-one teletherapy to families of children ages 0-3 who are deaf or hard of hearing with a therapist specialized in developing Listening and Spoken Language skills.

The first three years after a child is born are a critical time for the development of speech and language, especially the first year. What happens during this time will have a significant impact on your child’s life. Once this time period has passed, it becomes increasingly difficult for a child with hearing loss to develop spoken language.

We developed the BabyTalk program to provide teletherapy services for children with hearing loss from birth to 3 years of age wherever they live, using a parent coaching model in the convenience and familiarity of home.

Our Programs Work

“When we started BabyTalk I had only seen one child with hearing loss in our community it was very isolating! Being part of BabyTalk helped us understand that there are other children with hearing loss out there.”

Parent of BabyTalk student

“We had no idea whether our son would verbally communicate or not in the beginning. We found an excellent balance and clarity using the BabyTalk approach and everything our therapist suggested. She listened, she knew other aspects of the process including IEPs, and simply how to effectively talk about our needs with various  …

… therapists and audiologists over the 3 years. Through our work together our son is communicating. We will forever be grateful for our experience and the skills we learned from your program.”

“We know we always can count on our therapist to answer any concerns. We know our child is important to her. She also knows many kids are like our child and this really helps us.”

FAQs

It’s never too early! Get in touch with us as soon as you can, whether your child is a newborn or a toddler.

In addition to family and contact information, we will need your child’s audiogram and IFSP (Individualized Family Service Plan). Your audiologist and Early Start service provider can help.

We can provide, via Stanford, iPad and cell plan if you need it.

Our teletherapists will do our very best to work with you to accommodate your scheduling requests.

We accept most insurance plans, including Medi-Cal/CCS.

We have limited grant funding for families without insurance.

We work closely with county service providers to provide specialized listening and spoken language services complementary to their services.

That’s why we created TeachLSL™!

When your child turns 3, your county will transfer responsibility to your school district, and you will move from IFSP to IEP (Individualized Educational Program). Before your child turns 3, work with your BabyTalk teletherapist to conduct language assessments, prepare for your child’s IEP, and look forward to continuing your LSL journey with TeachLSL™!
