March Parent Education: Let’s Learn Together!

By Shannon Sharma, MS, CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVEd | February 28, 2023

Weingarten Children’s Center is dedicated to supporting and empowering families on their child’s listening and spoken language development journey, as we know that caregivers are their child’s primary and best teacher. Through the Parent Education Community, we offer opportunities for families to learn together through bi-monthly live virtual learning sessions on topics related to the care, development, and education of children with hearing loss. Parent Education learning sessions are led by Listening and Spoken Language experts, including Speech-Language Pathologists/Auditory-Verbal Therapists, Teachers of the Deaf, and Audiologists.

Learning Topic: Raising an Advocate: Self-Advocacy and Hearing Loss

Presenter: Kelly Borkowicz, M.Ed., CCC-SLP

Time: 7:00-8:00 PM (Pacific Standard Time)

Self-advocacy skills refer to your child’s ability to articulate their own needs and effectively get the help that they require. This is an important part of developing independence and communication skills for all children, but especially for children with hearing loss. Join us to find out how we address this in class and therapy, and what you can do at home! This session is intended for families of children with hearing loss ages 0 to 8.
