Melissa’s passion for teaching began in kindergarten and has only grown stronger throughout her career. After her daughter was diagnosed with profound hearing loss, she pursued a new calling to become a teacher of the deaf. Melissa earned her bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education, her master’s degree in Early Intervention in Deaf Education, and her doctoral degree in Collaborative High Impact Instruction, all from Fontbonne University. She also holds a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) certification.
With experience working with deaf children of all ages, Melissa has been a classroom teacher, worked in early intervention, and provided teletherapy services. She has taught at several renowned listening and spoken language schools, including Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children in San Antonio and the John Tracy Center in Los Angeles.
Melissa is thrilled to bring her expertise and passion for Deaf Education to the Foundation for Hearing Research at Weingarten Children’s Center, where she continues to support and empower children with hearing loss in their educational journeys.
