Welcome to the season of autumn. Can you hear the crunching leaves beneath your feet? The crows “cawcaw”-ing in the trees? The children playing in the park?

Did you know, we are actually hearing these sounds with our brains?!  It’s a common misconception that we hear sounds with our ears; however, our ears are just the “doorway” to the brain. For our children with hearing loss, their doorway can be opened through hearing technology, such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, BAHAs, etc. Opening the doorway is just the first step. 

Now that the door is open, what is the next step to develop a child’s “listening brain”? In this Parent Education Learning Session, we’ll learn about how to help your child to grow their speech, language, and thinking skills through listening, because auditory brain development is the foundation for spoken language development.

• how do auditory skills develop in children with hearing loss
• how are these skills strengthened within our school programs and through Listening and Spoken Language Therapy
• what strategies that you can use at home to enhance your child’s auditory development, or their “listening brain.”
