Joanie McLaughlin, M.A.T.

Joanie is a credentialed teacher of the deaf who specializes in listening and spoken language. She earned her deaf and hard of hearing teaching credential from San Jose State University and her Master’s in Teaching with a Specialization in Special Education from National University. Joanie has been teaching at Weingarten Children’s Center since 2006 and absolutely loves her job! During her time at WCC, Joanie has taught preschool, pre-k and kindergarten, worked as an itinerant teacher of the deaf for transitioning alumni students and helped develop and implement the school’s social skills program where children with hearing loss are taught pragmatics skills needed for mainstream success. In addition to her work at WCC, Joanie has also been a LSL teacher and mentor for the Listen to Me! Baker Institute for Children with Hearing Loss at Stanford University. Currently, Joanie is a mentor for new teachers and practicum students who are working towards becoming LSL certified teachers of the deaf. She is very passionate about her work at Weingarten Children’s Center and excited about all the wonderful families and professionals she has had the opportunity to support over the years.
